Here's an alternative to the hand shower

Here an alternative for those interested in an organic chlorine shower filter that outperforms most others.

Ronin-Online

I've tested the Vitashower Vitamin C shower filter with a digital chlorine meter and found it to be over 99% effective for residual chlorine removal. This is simply the best chlorine shower filter I've ever had the pleasure to use. Plus you get the bonus antioxidant protection that Vitamin C provides. In other words, it's actually good for you.

Email me if you would like to know how the top 10 shower filters came out after my in-home testing session. The results may surprise you.

Vitashower

Hello, how are you? I came across your website while looking for a water filter and I was wondering if you can help. I came across vitashower and many more filter systems, but I am so overwhelmed because there are so many on the market. First I was interested in something called Aquasana shower filter, but later found out that it only eliminates 75% of the chlorine. You did write that vitashower was very effective, removing 99% of the chlorine? I was wondering if this was your number one pick compared to other filters out there. Also, aren't there some advatages in using an actual filter which filters out the chlorine(like aquasana), rather than neutralizing it (like in vitashower), because it can also filter other harmful toxins from the water, and I don't know if vitashower provides other benefits. Well, my main concern is removing the chlorine from the water, but it would be icing on the cake if it would remove other things like DOCs, lead, pesticides, etc., I guess you can't have everything you want. I was hoping you can ease my decision making. Thanks for your time!

Vitashower vs. Aquasana

Stacy

The shower filters that came out on top, as far as my test was concerned, were the Vitashower and Sprite HOC shower filters. Both performed very well and removed over 99% of the total residual chlorine from the shower water. Either would make an ideal choice for you as an effective means of eliminating chlorine.

While the Aquasana shower filter is very popular with many people, it didn't fare as well in my tests. I found it to have the ability to reduce total residual chlorine at an efficiency rate of only 36%. With the exception of the Sprite HOC shower filter, I found this to be a fairly consistent representation across all KDF shower filter brands. Most of the KDF type shower filters scored in the range of 19%-39%. Only the Sprite HOC and Vitashower achieved almost perfect results.

There is a very important distinction in testing techniques you may not be aware of. Most shower filter manufacturers will claim their shower filter's are effective at removing anywhere between 85%-99.9% of chlorine. This may be true because they are testing ONLY FOR FREE CHLORINE. KDF if very effective at reducing the amount of free chlorine in your shower, but can do nothing for combined chlorine.

The problem is, most people have a combination of free and combined chlorine, also known as chloramine. It is a combination of chlorine and ammonia that is quickly becoming the disinfectant of choice across the US. Check with your local water municipality to find out if chloramines are currently being used or are planned to be implemented in the future. This will help make your decision a much simpler one.

KDF shower filters cannot remove chloramines in a shower filter application. This is why they can get away with making outrageous claims as to the effectiveness of their shower filters. It's just a matter of manipulating the test procedure to get the outcome they expect, while banking on the fact that most people will simply buy their sales pitch without a second thought. In the shower filter business, like most others, he with superior marketing techniques will always come out on top.

Stacy, you asked about a shower filter that is able to remove other contaminates from your shower water. Unfortunately, there isn't a shower filter in the world that can effectively remove anything but chlorine from your shower. No matter what they may claim. The water that flows through a shower filter is moving far to fast to be filtered with any significance. The best you can hope for in a shower filter is for it to trap trace amounts of sediment every now and again up until it becomes obstructed and begins to lower your water pressure.

If I had to make a recommendation for you it would be either the Sprite HOC or Vitashower shower filters. My family uses the Vitashower SF-1 with nothing but excellent results. I've also used the Sprite HOC, which would also make an excellent choice.

We use the Vitashower because of the added antioxidant protection it provides through the introduction of L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) to the shower water. But what really sold us was the fact that the Vitashower is a purely organic product that uses only all natural Vitamin C crystals. Almost perfect TOTAL chorine removal as well as the addition of Vitamin C to the shower water. For my family, the choice was simple.

Thanks Stacy and let me know if there is anything I can help you with. My shower filter review should go live any day now. I've been really busy with my job so it's been put on the back burner for now. I'll get started on the new site sometime today.

Hello reviewguy, I wanted

Hello reviewguy,
I wanted to thank you for taking the time to write back and supply very helpful information. You really made my decision making simple, without all the headache!!!

I ended up choosing the Sprite HOC because overall it was less pricey. I did like the benefit of the antioxidants the vitashower produced but since you did state they were both very effective in removing total chlorine, I had to look at which was less expensive in the long run.

I am reading the book "Natural Cures, They Don't Want You to Know About," by Kevin Trudeau, and he states it is very important to take the chlorine out of the water we shower in and drink because this can lead to scaring of the arteries and many other health hazards. This makes a lot of sense if you ask me.

Anyway, thank you very much again! My next mission is to find a water filter that takes out chlorine, fluoride, and other hazardous contaminants. In the book, Kevin does state that he uses reverse osmosis? My first choice was Aquasana as a drinking water filter, but they did claim that it only removes 60% of the fluoride, and I am convinced that I would like it removed.

Here we go again......... Boy, I tell you very difficult to find the right answers if you don't ask people who really know their stuff. I don't want to bother you anymore but if you happen to want to share some of your knowledge about drinking water I would really appreciate it!!!! Take care and happy Thanksgiving!!!

-Stacy

Hi again, Stacy

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. I think I ate too much again, LOL.

I'm glad you found my advice helpful in your search for the perfect chlorine shower filter. I think informing people of the potentially dangerous side effects of chlorine in the shower and bath to be very important. It isn't something that should be taken for granted. There is something we can do about it.

It's funny you should mention drinking water filters. I've been considering doing a comparison on those as well.

Anyways, my chlorine shower filter comparison is finally complete. Click the link below to go there now.

vitashower

reviewguy, thank you for doing the filter comparison. I am a skeptical person - first I thought you were selling vitashower.

I looked on ebay and this guy is selling this filter for only 14.95. I emailed him to confirm it's really the price, and it is.

if you are the owner of ronin-online, sorry but this is more than half cheaper.

being a skeptic, I tried to call vitashower corp. (the manufacturer) but the phone was disconnected and website is not working anymore. How did you get a hold of them?

thanks.

Did you indeed buy the vitash

Did you indeed buy the vitashower on e-bay. Was it new? If you have used it for about 3 months by now, what is your opinion of the product. Thanks, s

Vitashower Sources

The point of my comment is not to specifically recommend any reseller of shower filters. You are free to conduct your own price research and purchase from whomever you feel is most reputable.

My intention is to let as many people as possible know about the many choices available to them. Most will be taken advantage of because they don't know enough about these products to make an educated decision. That's the purpose of my review.

I'm a skeptical person as well. That's why I decided to do this shower filter comparison. I was tired of the lies and half-truths being told to unsuspecting consumers.

All of my contacts are high volume distributors of their respective products. They do not sell to individuals directly. In the case of Vitashower Corp., I was in direct contact with the factory located in Asia. They do not advertise their products to the general public. They have also taken down their website because of the flood of requests from individuals wanting to purchase small quantities to resell. They only sell to a very select group of authorized resellers who must meet certain minimum requirements.

If you can get an authentic shower filter on eBay for less, by all means do so. Just keep in mind you usually get what you pay for. Whether it’s in the quality of the product or the level of service you will receive for that seller after the purchase. It's been my experience that any purchase on eBay has the potential for disappointment. I no longer shop there for that very reason.

I always make purchases from reputable sellers with proven track records. Saving a few bucks initially really doesn't do you much good if the company you purchase from can't provide support in the case something goes wrong. Maybe I'm crazy, but that's just how I prefer to do business with any company.

Just my $0.02 worth. Take it or leave it.

Chlorine Shower Filter Comparison

bath filter and drinking water filter.

reviewguy,
by all mean don't take it wrong what I said above... it was just my initial thought about you being the seller - because it's hard to find unbiased, honest review about a product (with brand especially) without having a purpose of promoting it. And I am so greatful about your review on the filter comparisons - same here, I am tired of all the lies from sellers.

In any case, I am in search for a bath filter and drinking water filter. Right now, i am trying vitabath tablets - it also claims to clear chlorine and chloramine... have you or anyone use the bath ball? it costs arms and legs but I wonder if it works.

what about drinking water filter? does RO system get rid of chloramine? any recommendation for good brands?

thanks all.

Drinking Water

All,
First, I would like to sincerely thank the reviewguy for an outstanding job with his report comparing the various shower filters. It's ben a great help!
With regards to drinking water, without going into to much detail (for it is freely available on the net) the best drinking water by far is DISTILLED water (even better than water from Reverse Osmosis systems). After 1 year of research on this topic my entire family and most of our friend’s switched to distilled water by having it delivered from one of the local water delivery distributors via 5 gallon bottles. A home distiller large enough for us was too expensive at the time and required regular maintenance I was not prepared to sign up to. Do not purchase the 1 gallon bottles available in the supermarket for the plastic gets absorbed by the distilled water which you end up drinking which usually is associated with poor taste and known long term health effects. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Update To My Site

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know I have updated my site with a couple new links. The first one is a link to my reviewguy blog. I update it with my thoughts about crazy marketing techniques I’ve seen being used with respect to shower filters. Apparently, some people can't handle the truth or just don't want to hear it. Oh well, their loss not mine.

The second is a link to my new reader's comment page. I've included some emails from readers that took the time to send me a note.

I just wanted to thank those of you that took the time to visit and support my site. Without your letters of encouragement I think I would have shut my site down long ago.

It looks like I've made several enemies in the shower filter industry that would love to see me go away. My open invitation to all would-be detractors still stands. If anyone can prove any of my data to be bogus, bring it on. I'll happily make any adjustments to my site to accommodate the corrections. Just to let you all know no one has taken me up on this offer to date.

You can find these links on the "Resources" page of my site. It's the last tab on the right if you're using the navigation links at the top of each page.

Well, that’s all for now. I hope everyone had a peaceful Easter weekend.

I think I’ll take a shower now.

Shower Filters

Review Guy,

Thanks for your internet article testing shower filters. I really appreciate the info as I've been in the market to buy one and there is such a plethora of choices. Like Stacy, I am leaning towards the Sprite HOC, but I am wondering if you have any experience/knowledge with the April Shower HOC. It is similar in pricing to the Sprite, but April Shower offers a five year warranty on their parts.

Thanks for your time.

Distilled Water

Hey Jacob,

I've heard drinking distilled water over time depletes your body of essential nutrients and minerals. It's something that I've seen more and more lately. I'm not sure how reliable the sources are so take it with a grain of salt (no pun intended). It seems you would just have to take a daily multi-vitamin and the whole issue goes away. Have any thoughts on this?

I do agree with you about most supermarket bottled water being sold these days. If you take the time to read the label, some of them actually say it's taken from the regular municipal water supplies. They don't specify how the water is filtered. They claim to be selling natural spring water when it's just some joker with a hose filling the bottles up behind the 7-11.

The only thing I've ever used distilled water for is to refill my car battery. I never tried drinking it though. How long have you been drinking distilled water? Have you had any noticeable side effects, good or bad?

I appreciate you and everyone else on this blog reading through my comparison. It's good to know my hard work is helping people better understand their choices.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend!
