Happy Belated Earth Day

Oops. I was away for most of the weekend and missed it. Does that make me a bad environmentalist? Read Meteor Blades’ (2004 Kaufax Award winner for best commenter) post on Earth Day over at The Next Hurrah.

When you’re done there, feel free to confess one or two of your own environmental sins in the comments (and yes, I unabashedly stole this idea from the Gristmill).

Confession #1

I’ll start: I don’t care about Earth Day. I’m an environmentalist every day.

Actually, I did do something to celebrate – I got drunk at a bar and then entered into in an hour long discussion about energy policy with an Adam Smith libertarian. I asked him to consider blogging some of his thoughts on the Kyoto Protocol here, so keep your eyes open.

Confession #2

I don't recycle plastic and though I have my reasons (ostensibly green) I also have my doubts as to the ultimate veractity of the claims against plastic recycling. Objectivity is nearly impossible to come by on this count.

So I feel guilty about that. I also leave my computer on too much. Despite turning off all unneeded lights and other electronic devices, my computer and all peripherals are almost always on while I am at home. Even, horrifyingly, while I sleep. (I do turn off the monitor, though.)

I did nothing for Earth Day, though I did watch a play/performance about the relationship between man and animal. It was sort of related, I suppose, but your drunken conversation with the Adam Smith guy is more productive. Good job.
